The Mental Health Court program is held each week in the Justice and Municipal Court. The department consists of 9 1/2 employees and provides pretrial and probationary supervision, pretrial arrestee screening services, community service coordination, and oversees courthouse security. The District Court Judges also are responsible for District Court cases in Storey County. The First Judicial District Court Judges supervise the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Probation Department. These offices provide all clerical support for the court’s operations and serve the public. There are Court Clerk’s Offices on each respective floor. The First Judicial District Court is on the third floor and the Justice and Municipal Courts are on the second floor of the Carson City Courthouse.

In addition, misdemeanor bench trials are generally held within 60 days after a person enters a not guilty plea to the crime with which they are alleged to have committed. The Justice of the Peace reviews probable cause determinations for people arrested within 48 hours, conducts arraignments/advisements for people arrested within 72 hours and conducts preliminary examinations on felony and gross misdemeanor crimes within 15 days from the date of their arraignment/advisement. The Court's jurisdiction is limited to misdemeanors which are punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed six months, a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or a combination of both.
